Celebrating the 10th anniversary of providing microfinance in Sisian
July 10, 2008 was a unique day for all MDF-Kamurj staff. Ten years ago, the same day in 1998, Save the Children/US – Armenia office (SC) initiated microfinance in Sisian, funded by GTZ. The goal of the program was to serve the financial needs of Armenian women micro-entrepreneurs. The great initial success in Sisian encouraged SC to start a similar program also in Yerevan (funded by OSI AF) and, finally, create the Microenterprise Development Fund “Kamurj” (MDF-Kamurj), as a national, independent and professional institution. MDF-Kamurj was officially registered as a foundation in 2000. We believe that ten-year operations in the field has one more time proved the reliability of the institution, strong and loyal partnership with its clients (over 13,000 in July 2008). Customer satisfaction is set up as a corner stone of the institution’s operation. It is MDF-Kamurj's belief that learning and continued improvement, mutual support, accountability and teamwork are the keys to success. Maintaining solid relationships and demonstrating transparency are major stems in working with clients as well as partner and donor organizations. The special celebration event took place in July 10 in Sisian branch office. The best staff and star clients, who partner with MDF-Kamurj during all these years, were also awarded during the ceremony. The ceremony, organized with the staff, clients and mass-media representatives, was opened by the presentation speech of the Executive Director, Gagik Vardanyan. Special presentations and acknowledgements were expressed by the Sisian branch manager David Atomyan, Yerevan Credit Manager Zemfira Guloyan and Sisian Credit officer Gohar Tsatryan, as well as a number of star clients from the Sisian area. The invited clients also received surprise value-gifts and flowers. Our congratulations to the clients and all MDF Kamurj staff with the ten-year anniversary of starting microfinance!!!

10 Years of Bridging the Market Gap
MDF-Kamurj, represented by Gagik Vardanyan, Executive Director; Alexander Sahakyan, Finance Manager; and Lusine Simonyan, Marketing/PR Manager, participated in the 10th annual conference of the Microfinance Centre (MFC) for Central and Eastern Europe and the New Independent States, held in Sofia during May 31 – June 2 and gathering more than 500 participants. MFC celebrated its first decade of developing a unique microfinance forum for MFIs in Europe and Central Asia (ECA) region for sharing experience/information, building capacity and facilitating policy changes. The conference was focused on the cutting edge developments in microfinance for building effective and inclusive financial systems for the poor. As the ECA region is the second largest, after Latin America, recipient of commercial or quasi-commercial funding, the conference provided also an opportunity for MF investors to market their products and establish new relations. Since 2005, Gagik Vardanyan is a member of the MFC board of directors elected by MFC member organizations (currently 108). During the MFC board meeting following the conference, Gagik Vardanyan was elected as treasurer of the board. This is an additional responsibility for Gagik and we believe that he will put all his experience and efforts to contribute to the best implementation of the mission of MFC, as well as gain additional regional knowledge and experience to bring back and use for prosperity of MDF-Kamurj in Armenia. Congratulations!!!
COAF Holds Informational Conference on Micro Lending for Rural Areas of the Republic of Armenia
On January 30, 2007, the Children’s Fund of Armenia (COAF) held a conference in the Karakert village aimed at linking MDF-Kamurj and ECLOF microfinance providers to farmers from Argina, Dalarik, Karakert, Lernagog, Myasnikyan, and Shenik villages. The conference was arranged within the framework of the Model Cluster project, launched by COAF in February 2006 and implemented in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the World Bank, we all as with other local and international organizations. The project will promote channeling micro-finance resources into the project for revitalizing rural areas by employing a grounds-up approach. MDF-Kamurj and its services were presented by Gagik Vardanyan (executive director), Lusine Simonyan (marketing and PR manager) and Zemfira Guloyan (credit manager). It is expected that the partnership between MDF-Kamurj and COAF will particularly promote developing and implementing new microfinance products/services and an innovative mechanism of cooperation in the field focusing on cost cutting and synergy.
