MDF-Kamurj Executive Director elected as a member of the MFC Board of Directors
During the recent 8th Annual Microfinance Conference in Bucharest, organized by the Microfinance Center for CEE and NIS (MFC) during May 26 – 28, 2005, Gagik Vardanyan, the Executive Director of MDF-Kamurj, was elected as a member of the MFC Board of Directors for the next three years. This is a good opportunity for Mr. Vardanyan to contribute to the promotion of the microfinance sector in the region and support MFC in achieving its strategic goals. Moreover, the board membership will provide MDF-Kamurj with access to a wide range of information on the microfinance sector dynamics and development patterns, broaden MDF-Kamurj’s networking activities with donors, microfinance practitioners, organizations dealing with legal/regulatory issues, and learn more about microfinance governance. Congratulations!

Business Plan Strategy Development
MDF-Kamurj is working in conjunction with the Micro Enterprise Development Initiative (MEDI) to create a five-year business plan strategy. Key MDF-Kamurj staff met with MEDI staff February 8-10 for a Strategy Planning Workshop. The participants included: MDF-Kamurj loan staff, branch managers, representatives from Administration, Finance, Internal Audit, MIS and Marketing departments, Operation Manager, Executive Director, Chairman of the Board, CRS Regional Technical Advisor, Save the Children Director and Associate Director of Economic Opportunities, and USAID Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Advisor. This strategy workshop built upon the foundation of the 2004 MEDI conducted Institutional Assessment of MDF-Kamurj operations. MEDI is a USAID funded initiative working to advance the growth of a competitive private sector in Armenia.

Training on Strategic Marketing planning
As the microfinance market in Armenia continues to mature, MDF-Kamurj finds itself transitioning to a more market-led approach to meet client needs. Strategic marketing plays a key role in understanding the needs of clients and adapting operations to meet these needs. Marketing and PR Manager Lusine Simonyan together with EMDAP adviser Shana Aufenkamp attended the February 23-26 “Strategic Marketing for MFIs” training course in Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina. Strategic Marketing is a training course developed by MicroSave, but adapted for the CEE and NIS and conducted by Microfinance Center.
