A New Strategic Alliance established between MDF-Kamurj and Armenian Village operations (AVO) to Support Vulnerable Rural Communities, Sep-2005
A strategic alliance has been formed between MDF-Kamurj and AVO to support the development of Armenian vulnerable rural communities. AVO is actively exploring the opportunities of attracting a support from Armenian Diaspora to address the development needs of Armenian rural communities. The first joint project providing microfinance services to farmers has started in the Gargar community/Lori region, Armenia. The financial support was kindly provided my Mr. Johny Sahagian/USA. The project will allow forming two self-help groups (SHG) and provide microfinance services to at least 20 low-income farmers and micro-entrepreneurs of the village. The project will also promote farmer-to-farmer cooperation in Gargar and arrange the provision of non-financial services through establishing long-term cooperation partnerships between quality local suppliers of business development services. This effort will establish a community development initiative group of 7 members, including some of active members of the SHGs, representatives from MDF-Kamurj and AVO, aimed at identifying specific community problems, preparing projects addressing the needs of the most vulnerable members of the community, seeking donor support and coordinating community contribution and participation in problem solving.
